Birthday Party Picture
May is a birthday month in our neck of the woods.
Not only is my birthday in that month, but more importantly, that of my eldest daughter, Eleanor,
who turned four this year. We wanted to have a party for her, but the roofers were finally able
to start on our house that weekend. What to do? Well, we came up with a novel idea (at least
for us).The weekend after Eleanor's birthday, we packed up a picnic and
set off to a local park for a birthday party. Met up with another family and the four girls all had fun frolicking
in the lake (brrrr, a bit cold still) while Moms kept watch on kids and Dads kept watch on dogs and picnic lunch. Hmmm,
what a division of labour?
After about 90 minutes of swimming and playing on the beach,
the girls were ready for their picnic. (Actually, they'd started snacking when they arrived, but now
they were REALLY hungry). So we worked our way back to the picnic table and dug into the eats: rolls,
cheese, hard-boiled eggs, veggies, chips (I'm not so health conscious as all that) and drinks. The girls
also got to open some "loot bags" with water squirters (a real hit!) in the shape of sea creatures and
other assorted goodies (if you look, you can see Constance holding a teeny-tiny Golden book, which she
appreciated a lot. Party hats, of course, were required. I didn't bring a birthday cake (boooo,
Mom!) but I figured why make for a guaranteed mess at our picnic?.

One last shot of 3 of the girls again. Eleanor just adored
her picnic birthday and wants to have a picnic every week now (what have we done?). Constance also enjoyed
this a lot as did their two friends. A special thanks to Sara, who took these pictures and
got them developed so quickly. What a wonderful memory we've made!
