Virginia Woolf
Maybe you already knew, but that woman in the painting is Virginia Woolf (1882-1941), a brilliant English essayist, feminist and thinker. The painting that appears on my main page is from the hands of her elder sister, Vanessa, a noted artist.
  Virginia Woolf's many works include Mrs. Dalloway (1925), Orlando (1928), A Room of One's Own (1929), and Three Guineas (1938). Married to fellow social activist and intellectual, Leonard Woolf, Virginia also was a driving force behind Hogarth Press, which published the works of many great writers, including T.S. Eliot.
